DIIRD Strategies

DIIRD and State Government Vision

The Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development (DIIRD) has a key role in achieving the Government's vision for Victoria, as outlined in the 2005 updated vision statement, Growing Victoria Together.

As part of the 10-year vision outlined in that statement, the department is working to create thriving innovative industries that provide more quality jobs, help implement sustainable business practices to protect the environment, build safe and caring communities, and nurture cohesive links between government and industry.

Departmental Strategies

DIIRD has also been working with Ministers, central agencies, other government departments, key stakeholders and staff to create its own strategies that feed into the state-wide vision articulated in Growing Victoria Together.

These strategic directions and developments, outlined in the Strategic Directions 2005-08 and Annual Business Plan 2000-07, identifies five primary, three support and one corporate objective.

Five primary  objectives

  • investment attraction: to position Victoria as an attractive destination for investment that stimulates growth and development across the State
  • trade development: to work with the business sector and other key partners to encourage and facilitate exports
  • developing innovative industries: to facilitate and support innovation across Victorian research, business and industry
  • regional development: to facilitate sustained economic and industry development of provincial Victoria
  • marketing Victoria: to effectively market Victoria in a global economy

Three support objectives

  • competitive and fair business environment: to facilitate a business environment that is strongly supportive of industry development
  • productive workforce: to foster a high performance and skilled workforce to meet the needs of the economy
  • innovation and industry policy: to provide leadership to whole-of-Victorian Government innovation and industry policy development and evaluation

One corporate objective

  • to deliver high-quality, responsive, relevant, accessible and efficient corporate support within DIIRD
