The Information Privacy Act 2000 (IP Act) aims to protect and manage personal information that the Government collects and stores as well as promoting appropriate exchange of information in the community. The IP Act contains 10 information privacy principles (IPPs), which have been enforceable since 1 September 2002.
The Health Records Act 2001 (HR Act) aims to protect the privacy of health information and establishes standards through 11 health privacy principles (HPPs). These principles regulate the collection, handling, and disposal of health information in public and private sectors, including health service providers.
