Melbourne Centre for Financial Studies

The Melbourne Centre for Financial Studies, which will help promote Melbourne as a leader in financial research, has received seed funding from the Victorian Government. It will be operated by a consortium comprising the University of Melbourne, Monash University and RMIT University, together with the Institute of Securities, Finance and Banking. Its mission is to enhance Melbourne's reputation as an international centre of financial practice, research and education.

The Centre will specialise in leading edge research relevant to the Asia-Pacific region including derivative and tradeable markets, funds management, banking and financial services regulation, venture capital, corporate and infrastructure finance.

The Centre will promote greater collaboration and linkages in financial services by helping bridge the gap between universities, academic research and industry. It will also:

  • produce journal articles
  • host annual conferences
  • host lectures and briefing sessions
  • organise visits by leading international scholars
  • sponsor doctoral-level training courses by visiting academics
