2008 Review of University Legislation

In January 2008, the Minister for Skills and Workforce Participation commissioned a full Review of the founding Acts of Victoria's public universities.

The Review, to be undertaken by the Higher Education Division of the Office of Training and Tertiary Education, aspires to:

ensure the continuing relevance of higher education legislation to the contemporary education and training environment
ensure that the legislation supports universities' objectives
harmonise and align the common provisions of each university's founding Act

Victoria currently has eight public universities. The founding Acts of each of the following universities will be reviewed during this process:

The University of Melbourne
Monash University
Deakin University
La Trobe University
RMIT University
Swinburne University of Technology
Victoria University
The University of Ballarat

Additionally, the Australian Catholic University, which has a campus in Victoria and the Melbourne College of Divinity, will also be invited to be included in the Review.

In 2005 and 2006 the Victorian Government reviewed the State's education and training legislation. This review culminated in the Education and Training Reform Act 2006.
