Disability Action Plan 2006-2009

The Department’s Disability Action Plan (DAP) has been launched.

The plan outlines the Government’s vision regarding our future for people with a disability. It also brings together the principles of equality, dignity and self-determination (choice), diversity and non-discrimination.

DIIRD has a strong commitment to its disability action plan, which has six main goals:

  • provide opportunities for people with a disability to obtain employment and develop careers
  • improve staff awareness and understanding of the needs of people with a disability
  • develop accessible information and communication processes
  • provide opportunities for people with a disability to participate in consultation and decision making processes
  • ensure programs and services are accessible to people with a disability
  • provide improved physical access to buildings and facilities
