The Innovation Economy Advisory Board advises the Government on how best to develop and promote Victoria as a state with an innovative economy. The board members act in an advisory and promotional capacity to help government agencies develop innovative ideas from concept to launch, and to offer support and encouragement across a range of initiatives.
Promotes a genuinely competitive and fair business environment for Victorian small businesses by investigating complaints of large businesses abusing market power, mediating retail leasing and small business disputes, enforcing industry codes of practice and ensuring that government practices are business friendly.
The council provides important input from the perspective of culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) business communities.
Provides advice to Government on post compulsory education and training, provides funding for training and further education, regulates the apprenticeship and traineeship system, and supports the Local Learning and Employment Networks.
Informs and advises Government on opportunities to grow the Finance Services Industry.
There are 15 other government agencies that have ties to, or work in concert with, the Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development (DIIRD) to deliver a number of services and projects.
