Regional Development Victoria

Purpose

Regional Development Victoria (RDV) facilitates economic and community development in regional and rural Victoria to create a prosperous and growing Provincial Victoria.

Regional Development Victoria has primary responsibility for:
  • creating vibrant and dynamic regional communities and economies through the facilitation of new jobs, investment and exports
  • facilitating new investment in regional and rural Victoria through infrastructure funding for strategic projects
  • delivering programs and information to help grow a robust and sustainable business economy and strengthen communities throughout provincial Victoria
  • preparing integrated regional plans and developing a blueprint for determining future priorities for the social and economic development across regional Victoria
  • providing small business information to make it easier to start and operate a small business. RDV also develops and advocates policies to promote small business and indigenous businesses, and delivers programs to grow the sectors in Victoria

Structure

Chief Executive

RDV is headed by the Chief Executive, Regional Development Victoria and Deputy Secretary. RDV’s Chief Executive/Deputy Secretary DIIRD is responsible to the Minister for Regional and Rural Development and provides support and strategic advice to the Minister for Small Business.

Regional Development Advisory Committee (RDAC)

The Regional Development Victoria Act 2002 provides for the establishment of a Regional Development Advisory Committee to advise the Government on matters relating to community and economic development in rural and regional Victoria and provide support in promoting and growing rural and regional Victoria.

The Committee consists of the Chief Executive of RDV, who is the Chair, and six members representing rural and regional Victoria.

Small Business

Small Business provides and coordinated and accessible information to make it easier to start and operate a small business. The Division develops and advocates policies to promote small business and indigenous businesses, and delivers programs to grow the sectors in Victoria.

Food and Beverage

The Food and Beverage division’s activities are focused on:

  • International Exports Strategy
  • Domestic Strategy - consumer and events
  • Investment facilitation
  • Policy, Research and Regulation

Infrastructure

The Infrastructure division has responsibility for the delivery of infrastructure projects that will improve the competitive capacity of regional Victoria and enhance economic development through investment, job creation and the promotion of export opportunities. 

Delivery

The Delivery division drives Government programs and services to support business and community growth and acts as a conduit between Government at all levels to promote regional development.

Regional Strategic Planning

Regional Strategic Planning division is responsible for developing a long-term, state-wide blueprint to manage growth and change in provincial Victoria. The Division also supports improvements to the overall processes and governance of regional planning across the State, including greater coordination between all levels of government, including support for the ongoing development of ‘place-based’ regional or sub regional plans that are integrated with the state-wide blueprint. The blueprint, to be released early 2010, will support the formation of a comprehensive view of the investment required in provincial Victoria across all tiers of government.
